Double Fleet Target
We, the undersigned organisations, proudly endorse Double The Bus — a collective effort calling for urgent investment in India’s public bus systems to ensure transport that is affordable, accessible, and sustainable for all.
Increase budgetary allocation for public bus services in cities/towns.
Commit to doubling the bus fleet in all Tier I, II, and III cities with a population of over one million by 2030, in order to meet rising demand and equity goals.
Prioritize modernization, safety, and accessibility in public transport systems to ensure a dignified commuting experience for all.
As supporters of the Double The Bus, we pledge to:
Support efforts to double city bus fleets in our respective regions to meet growing demand and ensure equitable mobility.
Engage with citizens, decision-makers, and media to amplify the stories and needs of public transport users.
Involve our networks in activities such as National Days of Action, storytelling drives, and public petitions.
Collaborate with other organizations and city chapters to share resources, strategies, and ideas to scale impact.
Promote inclusive, climate-friendly mobility solutions that put people — especially marginalized communities — at the center.
Join us in this mission to reimagine our cities, center people over cars, and create a cleaner, more just future.
This will be an inclusive, non-disruptive, and non-partisan initiative that seeks to unite rather than divide. Our focus is on solutions, not blame — we do not intend to negatively target any individual, institution, or agency, but instead to work collaboratively towards building a stronger public transport system for all.

Bengaluru: Members of the HSR Community Task Force held a campaign, ‘Double the Bus’, to raise awareness about the need for stronger investment in public transport by the government. Despite having several feeder buses, HSR Layout continues to face shortages after the opening of the Namma Metro Yellow Line. The campaign was held on World Car Free Day on Monday. Public transport advocate Srinivas Alavilli said, “Double the Bus is a just demand and I am glad to see so many cities come together today.” He noted that many commuters face overcrowded buses daily. “We need more buses — much more than double,” he added. Volunteer Sachin Pandith of the HSR Community Task Force said feeder buses have significantly reduced traffic in the area. “As a community we share responsibility. Feeder buses have reduced cars and pollution, but they are jam-packed. Hence, we are asking for more buses,” he said. HR professional Sahana Jayaram, who works in HSR Layout, said she wants to continue using public transport, but both metro and bus services are overcrowded. “At peak hours, it is hard to even breathe in buses. If this continues, people will be forced to shift to autos, cabs or private vehicles, worsening traffic,” she said.
